The PC is the governed body and the erratic identity. The PC is the amplified version of the perpetual human number. The PC is the performance of some conformism and the system. But, PC prioritizes strangers over friends to duly dispense justice. Thus, beware of paroxysm.

Side note: The Passport Ceremonies is a performance of bureaucracy and labor in 4 extra-ordinary acts. Costumes, props, texts, cocktails, and scent request your presence.
Statement:
“You”; you freelance to a brand, subject to a contract. You get by with a name and a body.
You must respond as introduced, must be one in a system, a nice ordering system, exist none outside, each in a role, like the famous traveling players, you know, charming and charmed, both the foreground and the background, stand here please, we need your picture, the face won’t focus, and excuses line up in formation, failing to stand, but also to disturb, the same, our movement and migration, the stream of change or just entropy you know, always in a new body or style to adopt, anyway dated habits, forcing some kind of production, of integrity and status, like an obsession with principals and class, the ones we make to have and to hold, and to respond to a fixer, before the question is entirely lost, “Who are you”

GATE
PC Performance 1

The care of a stranger must be in the hands of an official. Everyone is welcome, under conditions. The conditions are predefined and signed by both parties. After the agreement, they are friends. They can be permitted in the same space. This is a moment of celebration. They may stop dancing when the time comes, exhausted.

Routine service: a body of cabinet and a body of desk admit visitors.

PARADE

PC

Performance 2

When someone comes in, oughts to be introduced. If nobody knows him, then the man is a stranger. The stranger must receive gifts, gold and food. Someone then ought to be inspecting the stranger, all eyes and ears, until the unnamed intentions are well known.
Routine service: a body of CONSUME tray and a body of TRASH tray offer drinks to visitors

COURT
PC Performance 3

In a room full of non-strangers, someone ought to provide order. Someone is selected to be the superior in all. All the rest ought to rectify and fix the selected one up. An official is leading the case.

Routine service: a body of limbo administratives hand out documents to visitors.

CELEBRATION

PC Performance 4
None in a whole is a stranger, thus each of a whole should present a strong sense of civic identity and unity. When A belongs to the whole of B and to C and is affirmed of nothing else, and B also belongs to all C, it is necessary that A and B should be convertible: for since A is said of B and C only, and B is affirmed both of itself and of C, it is clear that B will be said of everything of which A is said, except A itself.
Routine service: everyone is entitled to sign and swallow a piece of certified cake.

The project “In the quest for the meaning [of a rock]” is an exploration of the ways of searching for the meaning of things, in
particular on the realm of the internet. It is mostly built upon
a report that explains the different decisions made while
searching online for an answer to the symbolic question,
“What is a rock?”. The report is being updated by an opposing
reflection to the meaning of the findings themselves.

Above and beyond, the project deals with the act of collecting,
reusing, and re-publishing ideas. The Are.na platform, where collective knowledge fosters, was used as the web source of this research. In the last part of the process, the material that was collected was uploaded to the web. The gesture of re-publishing
aims to contribute to the layers of interpretation and appropriation of “what a rock means” as shared online. For this
reason, the initial material was filtered by the subjectivity of the
investigator and thus altered. This modification is displayed on a
website and two generators of the random definition of a rock,
in the form of text and images. Everything was built on coding, as
a performance that exemplifies and criticizes the act of the production of meaning. This additional gesture intends to highlight
the absurdity of the narrowed perception of the essence of things
through words and images.

Research question: How do representations of ecosystems influence our understanding towards represented realities?
The aim of this project is to examine the complex impact of
representations on our perception of ecosystems of any
kind. A consecutive research question was raised: How can we
enable empathy towards nonhuman agents through and within
representation? The inquiry developed into the creation of our
own representation: A fictional documentary proposal which is
solely based on the already existing digital archive Mississippi.
An Anthropocene River; a case study that is physically and culturally distant from us, thus it is our only resource for understanding the ecosystem of the river. The act of making a representation solely based on an existing representation is an extreme
example of the deficiency of representation to sufficiently
portrait reality.

By providing a fictional proposal instead of an actual documentary, we intend to enable a critical discussion on the level of representational influence. We look beyond the finished surface of
representations and examine their inner structures, by using ourselves, in order to question underlying intents and voiced subjectivities that shape every reproduction of reality.

In alignment with the research goals, the created proposal
places the river itself at the center of narration. With simulating
a long-missing voice of the Mississippi (an act of empathetic acknowledgment), we aim to regard nonhuman agents as essential
interlocutors in any human discourse on ecosystems.

The way we make sense of the world corresponds to the meanings we create. Language intervenes as the plaster of this process, through public acts such as journalism.

Within journalistic reports, events get encoded and communicated to the audience. The moment when the reality of the recipient meets a distant reality of someone else designates decision-making over accepting the response-ability of knowing.

This decision is sociopolitically situated; yet, highly affected by the ability of the journalist to appoint urgencies and sensibilities, naturally filtered by a subjective position. These are addressed by the published words, powerful enough to evoke empathy, sympathy, or simply pathos.

The mediator, though, does not stand alone but is integrated into societies of social bodies and social actors, by speaking for, speaking about, or speaking to them. What matters and what is meaning-full lay in the trembling surfaces of their representation, distribution, and reception. It is a vivid relationship between the mediator, the published words, and the receiver, that keeps beating from the three edges.

Within my research, I wonder what are the ethical responsibilities and the emotional implications of journalistic practices. I further question how published words could shake social bodies to challenge perspectives and activate engagements in the many surrounding realities.

Ultimately, an act of publishing is an act of disseminating, and therefore, responding to constitutive effective reconfigurations of public affairs. Nevertheless, since the responsibility is distributed among social bodies, the importance historically and culturally is allocated within the oscillating power of the three parts.

Project title:

In Common Bodies
//Reflections in paradigms

	November, 2019 - March, 2020

We (me, you, he, she, us, you, they) act as a paradigm, as a hyper whole not under a name. My paradigm or your paradigm resonates in our surroundings and reflects back on what we cannot keep control of; any meaning could be gained only under specified conditions. (Public) space is a paradigm, paradigm gets to be a paragon, and paragon becomes a reality.

The project investigates the notion of public space through the lens of a microscope. The microscope here is used as a metaphor for the microscale of the examination, which is orientated towards the smallest scale possible in an attempt to reach a larger scale and has a literal translation on the setting of the project. Different scales narrate the significance of the internality (inner reality) as a fragment of collectivity (outer reality), which -for the here and for the now- are considered an inseparable factor on the understanding of space, place, private, and public.
Dialogue is the tool that leads the subject of this investigation. It is considered as an embodiment of re-membering, in the sense of encountering, thinking, and recognizing. Two synchronized bodies are the two participants of the dialogue, in a written form. The two characters, me and you, are occupied with questions; (any) me and (any) you came together to converse and reciprocate, in an act of communication.
The demarcation of each speaker is stated by his position. Everyone gets a pen. Blue is me, pink is you. Black pen is excluded; it’s superior permanence will pauperise any meaning meant to be meaningful.

Theoretical Practice
Could a universal dimension of experiencing Public Space ever exist? This is a story editing on how I disclaimed something I have never owned.

1st attempt
Thursday. 7 a.m. I am boarding a ship with orange funnels and I’m heading to my seat . Once I’m settled in, I am starting to feel the presence of the others. As they move, they bring curt, chill breezes, wrapped in the trolleys of their luggage. Α blurry - but well synchronized - murmur seems to follow them as they move around looking for their seats. I stand up and join their rambling movement, until I reach the door and move to the open deck. I remove my shoes and get myself comfortable on a bench. I grab a pencil from the left pocket of my jacket and write down my thoughts on a piece of paper.

2nd attemptThursday. 7 a.m. I am boarding a ship with orange funnels and I’m heading to the seat with the same number as in the ticket I hold. Once I’m settled in, I am starting to re-member that others are also present. As they move, they transmit curt, chill breezes, wrapped in the trolleys of luggage that they carry with them. Α blurry - but well synchronized - murmur seems to also follow them as they move around looking for specific numbers on seats. I stand up and enter their rambling movement, until I reach the limits of the space that I currently move around to and cross them to lead myself to the open deck. I remove the objects that define me, walking in public areas, and get myself comfortable on a bench. I grab a pencil from the left pocket of the jacket that is covering the edge of the limits of my body and write down a conversation between myself and the world on a piece of paper.

3rd attempt
Thursday. 7 a.m. I am boarding a ship with orange funnels and I’m heading to find a seat. Once I’m settled in, I am starting to re-member the presence of my existence. This presence is signified by a movement, through which curt, chill breezes, wrapped in the trolleys of luggage that move around, are being transmitted. Α blurry - but well synchronized - murmur seems to also follow this movement around the seats. I stand up and enter this rambling movement, until I find a unique rhythm of movement and change direction, only to lead myself to the open deck. I remove the objects that I carry with me to remind me that I participate in movements and get myself comfortable on a bench. I crab a pencil from the left pocket of the jacket that is covering me and write down a collection of ideas on a piece of paper.

Essay on “User as Citizen”
The complex of changing systems of power and self-autonomy.

December, 2019

guided by Vincent Thornhill

How should we understand the role of technology and digitality in shaping societies? It’s only fair to have as a starting point, that we, the members of societies, are now, since the last decade to today, well immersed in a technological way of thinking and interpreting the world. By appropriating the term “digital technology”, we weave our multiple actions and current norms of our common living. We experience our constant shaping through our practices and our entanglement with other cohabitants in the societies. Even better, we encounter our shaped interpretation of our reality in the (co)habitant’s formations in structures of functioning and co-existing—meaning clustered power. As Foucault explained in his theory about power-knowledge, the ways we live, think and act are shaped by structures of power. He defines power as a structural expression of "a complex strategic situation in a given social setting"[1]. The imperative complexities, that reside in the relationship between us and our common structures, define, categorize and classify our existence in the societies. Thinking about our interconnections in societies and changes through time, considering our current experience with digitality being part of the frame and the index of our societies, our relationships will be free “if they open our human existence to the essence of technology”[2].

Even though we understand this power as a dominant imposition, in fact, we wouldn’t realise and experience our social existence without it. Still, and following the emergence of technology (that resulted in a newly introduced digital aspect of our reality) there is a gap we need to gain an understanding of and overcome, in order to fully and consciously participate in our fabricated systems. This gap could be determined by an inquiry on our inherent tendency for autonomy and self-control. Since we are forced to participate in an independent system, that regulates our actions and practices, but we do not entirely possess self-recognition of our role and understanding of the way and the extent of our participation, we ask, is there still any room for our freedom?

Sofie Topi (Sofia) is a freelance editor, designer, media storyteller, and a film critic. Her work ranges from writing and editing to performances and video installations. In her practice, she is absorbed by research as art, writing
as design, and audiovisual analysis as reasoning. She explores sociopolitical landscapes from a personal level, with the aim to communicate interpersonal complexities. She adopts editorial
independence, she collects, and exercises, and composes, and orchestrates; and so she prefers to address her work as a performative reportage of understanding contemporary politics and (her)
view of the world.

Sofia is currently writing for The People’s Moves and High on Films, and serves as editor for nonfiction at The Brussels Review.

Sofia studied Architecture at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (GR, 2017), Design
Curation and Writing at the Design Academy Eindhoven (NL, 2021), and Storytelling for Social Change at MichiganX (2022).
